The wild, wild west!

Updated: Sep 2, 2022

The Peter Westblade Scholarship helps young people through mentoring, creating opportunities and building networks and contacts which provides an invaluable kick start to careers.

The Peter Westblade Scholarship has been running for ten years, and since the inception Craig Wilson has been involved with the design and supporting scholars through their development in the sheep industry. One of the many experiences for the scholars is a seven day trip to Western Australia with Craig looking at the diversity of sheep genetics on offer in the west.

Just recently, 2021 scholar Austin Grace and 2022 scholar Mitchell Rubie joined Craig on his annual sheep venture to Western Australia. This trip provided them with the opportunity to visit Fletchers International, Albany, Kojonup Feedlot, Katanning Sheep Show and Ram Sale, Billandri Poll Merinos and Wattle Dale Fine Merino Stud.

“I applied for a Peter Westblade scholarship because I believe it will benefit me and my career aspirations as it will provide further education, guidance and mentoring in professionally developing my career in the industry”, said Austin Grace.

"The WA trip was invaluable and provided me with the opportunity to see first hand the diversity in genetics of Merino's and the processing facilities at Fletchers and their new state of the art feedlot", said Mitchell Rubie.
