Independent Trials
At Kentish Downs, research and data drive our breeding direction. Participation in national research trials allows us to benchmark our sires, validate genetic progress, and enhance outcomes for commercial producers.
Bowan Park Research Trial
Kentish Downs entered sire KD 230196 in the 2025 Bowan Park Research Trial, reinforcing our commitment to performance benchmarking and continuous genetic improvement.

The trial compares sires within the same lamb group to measure key traits including growth, muscle, and fat — assessed both in live animals and at carcase level. Visual evaluations also focus on structure, carcase shape, and breed characteristics in line with Poll Dorset and APDA standards.
Temora Agricutural Innovation Centre
In August 2024, an independent research trial was launched at the TAIC to validate ASBVs. While the full dataset is still being analysed, early results are already impressive. At less than six months of age with a pasture only diet, using current average values the lambs would average $326.50/head.
